Thu 28 Nov – Jack and the Beanstalk, New Brighton

First day of panto rehearsals for ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton (over the river from Liverpool). Always slightly nerve wracking to be meeting the people you’re going to be spending the next 6 weeks of your lives with. I imagined we’d be rehearsing in some sort of village hall type arts centre, but it turns out that it’s actually a huge ex-music venue and transport museum built  inside an old tram shed. In fact there are a few restored trams inside still on their tracks.

Huddled in one of the smaller and warmer rooms down the side we sat in a circle and ploughed through our first read through. I could tell by the end that this show has been really well cast. Everyone shined in their roles and I’m really excited to be a part of it all. Think Emma (who plays the part of the Princess) was slightly unimpressed by my proclamation of love for the hundred year old tram parked up outside the rehearsal room, but I caught some of the other male members of the cast taking photos of it, so I know I’m not alone…
