All Under The Place – 1 Nov, Mount Kosciuszko, Australia

Woke up this morning in a hotel in the town of Thredbo, at the bottom of Australia’s largest mountain, Mount Kosciuszko. It’s a funny old place. 3 months of the year they get snow on top of the mountain and a small Alpine style town has been created in the valley of the national park. In the morning we shot an opening sequence for the item with Iain and I on Segways, which was far more fun than either of us realised it was going to be. We wheeled round the grassy resort with massive smiles on our faces as our director Craig very patiently herded us like cats in front of the camera. After a couple of hours we took a chairlift to the crest of the mountain where there was still snow and marvelled at there being snow in Australia (although their season is over now, so there isn’t much of it left) before hitting a dry bobsleigh run lower down.

It was one of those “Well, this is a nice job isn’t it?” days, and I enjoyed our 3 hour drive through the mountains and fields to the seaside town of Eden. We’ve been to every state in Australia now, and I think New South Wales has to be my favourite. Shame it keeps getting set on fire…
